FOB FOC Installation Part 5CF Putting Iron Suphur Filter into Service

FOB FOC Installation Part 5CF Putting Iron Suphur Filter into Service

Once you've completed all of the plumbing and drain connections as detailed in part 1, 2C & 3 in the Water softener installation series and you have reviewed my "Water Treatment Equipment Order of Water flow" video or blog post, you can follow the following procedures in putting your Clack WS1 FOB/FOC into service.

Bypass FOB/FOC, turn the main water supply on and run water at bathtub faucet to flush out any debris that may have entered the system during plumbing.

Check for leaks by closing all faucets. If leaks are found, after checking all connections, turn off the main water supply. Open a cold water faucet to depressurize the lines, once depressurized, close the faucet to eliminate any siphoning action. Repair any leaks before proceeding.

Plug in the power cord and program the FOB/FOC controller, see "FOB/FOC Installation Part 4C Programming Your Automatic Iron/Sulphur Filter" video or blog post.

1. Press and hold the REGEN button for five seconds until the drive motor starts. Wait until the motor stops and the display reads “Backwash”. The backwash time will begin to count down.

2. Open the inlet handle of the bypass valve slightly, allowing water to fill the tank slowly to expel air out of the drain line and remove fines from the media. Gradually increase flow over 5-10 minutes. CAUTION: If water flows too rapidly, there will be a loss of media out of the drain.

3. When the water is flowing steadily to the drain without the presence of air and is not discolored, press the REGEN button to advance the control to the brine position, if it isn't already moved to this cycle itself. The brine time will begin to count down. Note: although it says that it is in the "brine" cycle, it is actually in the air draw cycle for FOB or FOC's.

4. Fully open the inlet bypass valve handle (bypass is now in the diagnostic position). Check to verify that air is being drawn into the inlet air filter very slowly by listening closely for a gurgling sound. There should be a slow flow of water to the drain. Allow the valve to complete this cycle by itself before going on to the next step.

5. Open the outlet handle of the bypass valve fully to put the FOB/FOC into service, and once again run water at a bathtub faucet to remove any debris.
